Women's soccer earns a point in Guelph

GUELPH - In a crucial late season contest, the Brock Badgers women's soccer team picked up a critical point following a 1-1 draw versus the Guelph Gryphons on Friday night.

Following a very quiet first half in Guelph it took just 15 seconds for the Badgers to break the 0-0 deadlock as Cerrina Toromoreno scored her first goal of the season quickly in the second frame.

The Brock defence then stood strong for over 30 minutes as the OUA West second place Gryphons looked for an equalizer. Badgers keeper Isabelle Newkirk would finish the evening with four total saves in the important draw. However, Guelph was able to even the game late in the 82nd minute to avoid conceding a full three points to the visitors.

A log jam in the OUA West, the Badgers currently sit in fifth place, but there is only five points separating sixth from second with just two matches remaining in the OUA regular season.

Brock and Guelph will be right back at it this Sunday, Oct. 16, however the Badgers will be on home turf at Alumni Field. Kick off is scheduled for 1 p.m. with the match also being streamed on OUA.TV.
