Third period boost from Burnie delivers home opener for Badgers

ST CATHARINES - In their first OUA regular season contest in new Canada Games Park, the Brock Badgers men's hockey team utilized a stellar third period to capture a 4-0 win over the visiting Western Mustangs on Saturday night.

The Badgers open the 2022-23 OUA season with back-to-back wins, registering 10 goals, while holding their opponents scoreless to begin the new campaign.

In the Saturday evening match Brock was propelled by two Tyler Burnie third period goals which seeled the win for the blue and red. Veteran captain Jared Marino scored the opening goal of the game just three minutes into the first period, while Ethan Sims rounded out the Badgers goals with a third period marker of his own.Second-year forward Justin Kyle also notched two assists in the win.

Brock goaltender Mario Peccia maintained his shutout streak to begin the season, making 21 saves. Peccia is yet to concede a goal in 120 minutes between the pipes.

Prior to the start of the game the Badgers were also honoured to have the first head coach in Brock Badgers men's hockey program history on-hand to take part in the ceremonial puck drop.
 
The Badgers and Mustangs will be right back at it as Brock travels to London on Wednesday, Oct. 19. Puck drop for the road game is set for 7 p.m. with the contest also available to watch online at OUA.TV.
