LONDON - The No. 8 nationally ranked Brock Badgers men's hockey team claimed their third consecutive win to begin the 2022-23 OUA season defeating the Western Mustangs in a come-from-behind overtime effort, 3-2, in London on Wednesday night.
Facing off with the Mustangs for the second time in five days, the Badgers found themselves down early after conceding a powerplay marker in the first period. The goal marked the first given up by Brock goalie
Mario Peccia in over 120 minutes following two shutouts to open the new campaign.
In the second period, it was the Badgers who were able to take advantage of the powerplay as Brock captain
Jared Marino continued his hot start registering his third goal of the season at the 15 minute mark.
The tie game was short-lived as Western took back the lead midway through the third period. However Brock was undeterred, scoring another powerplay marker with less than two minutes remaining courtesy the stick of fourth-year centre
Frankie Pucci to force overtime in London
Jacob Roach proved to be the hero, notching the game-winning goal for the Badgers just under three minutes into the three-on-three extra frame. Roach would lead the team on the night with two points, also recording an assist on Brock's opening goal of the game.Â
Peccia finished his third win of the season with 40 total saves.

The Badgers will remain on the road next traveling to Waterloo on Thursday, Oct. 27 to go against the Laurier Golden Hawks. Puck drop for the away game is set for 7 p.m. with the contest streamed online atÂ
