ST CATHARINES - The Brock Badgers women's hockey team concluded their preseason schedule on Saturday afternoon dropping a 1-0 overtime result to the visiting York Lions.
Prior to the start of the game, Brock Badgers athletics honoured Brock University Interim President and Vice-Chancellor Dr. Lynn Wells for her continued support with a special commemorative frame honouring the historic 2021-22 Badgers seasons, alongside the ceremonial puck drop.
On the ice, the Badgers and Lions were evenly matched as neither side was able to find a goal within the 60 minutes of regulation time. The play of both goaltenders was exceptional with Badgers goalie
Tiffany Hsu finishing the overtime contest with 30 total saves, while Serena Vilde tallied 29 in the shutout for York.
In the overtime frame, which entails 3-on-3 hockey for a seven minute period before a shootout if needed, Brock and York exchanged chances. However, it was Brooke Anderson who notched the game-winning goal for the Lions with just 30 seconds remaining in the period.
Brock will open their OUA regular season next Saturday, Oct. 22 with their home opener at Canada Games Park versus the Guelph Gryphons. Puck drop is scheduled for 4 p.m. with a special presentation taking place prior to honour the 2021-22 McCaw Cup winning Badgers. Tickets can be purchased at brocku.universitytickets.com and the game will also be available to stream online at OUA.TV.
