Brock host top competition for RBC Classic

ST CATHARINES - Hosting the annual RBC Classic exhibition tournament at the Bob Davis Gymnasium, the Brock Badgers men's basketball team opened their preseason with three games in as many days.

GAME 1: Manitoba 85 Brock 82

In their first contest of the weekend on Friday evening the Badgers and Bisons delivered an exciting showdown which came down to the final shot. Brock displayed offensive depth with six players reaching double-digit points, while also showcasing a hard-working defense which created 12 steals in the four quarters of action. Godsman Kwakwah recorded a team-high 18 points for the Badgers, including five three-pointers made. Meanwhile, Jordan Tchuente registered a double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds. Manitoba's Simon Hildebrandt led all scorers with a game-high 28 points in the win.

GAME 2: Dalhousie 71 Brock 64

A slow first half saw Brock playing from behind for the majority of the game versus Dalhousie as the fell behind by 10 heading into the halftime break. Four Badgers reached double-digits in the loss, including starters Jesse Barnes and Isaiah Bujdoso who each scored 10 points, respectively. A trio of Tigers in Malcolm Christie, who recorded a game-high 20 points, Nginyu Ngala, and Shamar Burrows caused fits for the Badgers in the Saturday night showdown.

GAME 3: Dalhousie 71 Brock 64

Concluding the RBC Classic with a contest versus perennial powerhouse Ottawa, the Badgers were effective in the final contest of the weekend shooting 50 percent from behind the three-point line and 46 percent from the floor despite the loss. Tcheunte guided the Brock offense with a double-double consisting of a game-high 24 points and 10 rebounds in 36 minutes of action. Michael Matas also provided a spark off the bench for the Badgers pouring in 17 points on 8-for-12 shooting. Sharing the load Guillaume Pépin proved to be the top scorer for the Gee-Gees finishing the game with a team-high 16 points including eight shots from the free throw line.

Brock next travels to Calgary to take part in another three-day tournament. Action will begin on Friday, Oct. 7 versus the host Calgary Dinos, before challenging the Regina Cougars and UBC Thunderbirds.
