ST CATHARINES - Competing at home on Alumni Field for the only time this season, the Brock Badgers women's lacrosse team picked up a positive result with an 8-8 tie versus the McMaster Marauders on Sunday afternoon.
The Badgers were fast out of the gate building a quick 5-3 lead heading into halftime with the Marauders.
However, following the break McMaster closed the deficit and took back the lead. After exchanging goals late, the Marauders held an 8-7 advantage heading into the final seconds when
Mackenzie Shigwadja converted on a penalty opportunity to secure the tie and end a losing skid for the Badgers. Shigwadja finished the game with two goals and two assists, while
Kyla McGuire notched a hat-trick. Scoring for Brock was rounded out by single markers from
Kennedy Rawding, Riana Botnik, and
Ryanne Logan.
Prior to the tie, the Badgers dropped three games in tough matchups across the weekend. On Saturday, Brock fell 7-1 to the Guelph Gryphons with Rawding recording the lone goal for the Badgers. That followed a 23-0 shutout loss to perennial powerhouse Western. Then on Sunday morning, the Badgers also dropped a 16-1 contest to the Laurier Golden Hawks with Shigwadja scoring for Brock.
