ST CATHARINES - Concluding their preseason schedule on Friday afternoon at Canada Games Park, the Brock Badgers men's hockey team fell 4-3 in overtime to the visiting Western Mustangs.
In an exciting home contest the Badgers fell behind early trailing 1-0 heading into the first intermission. However, a power play marker from
Jared Marino, followed by a second goal from
Cole Thiessen lifted Brock into the lead in the second period. Western were able to get one back to even the score 2-2 before the second intermission.
Then just 13 seconds into the third period Brock snatched the lead once again courtesy the stick of the fourth-year captain Marino. The Badgers were only able to hold onto the advantage for a five minute stretch as the Mustangs answered back to even the game 3-3 and push the action into overtime. Ethan Browne for Western proved to be the hero scoring just past the five minute mark of the extra frame.
Mario Peccia made 28 saves for Brock in net, while Dylan Myskiw stopped 27 in the win for Western.
With their exhibition schedule coming to a close Brock will open OUA regular season play next Friday, Oct. 14 on the road versus the Waterloo Warriors.
