WATERLOO - In a Friday afternoon showdown in Waterloo, the Brock Badgers men's soccer team fell 2-1 to the home side Laurier Golden Hawks.
The loss marks the second in a row for the Badgers who opened their 2022 season with a seven match undefeated streak.
A slow start to the contest saw both teams going through a feeling out process as the late season match holds implications on the looming playoff picture. Late in the first period the Golden Hawks shot to life breaking the deadlock just before the 42nd minute from the foot of Liam D'Ulisse.
As the second half progressed,
Connor Carroll evened the match for the Badgers speeding down the wing before depositing a game-tying goal in the 55th minute. However, Laurier continued to pressure earning several corners and keeping the ball in the Brock half of the pitch resulting in a 65th minute game-winner from Baden Beckles.
Winless through their last four matches, the Badgers will next face Guelph in a crucial home-and-home series as the Gryphons sit just ahead of Brock in the OUA standings. The back-to-back games will begin on the road in Guelph on Friday, Oct. 14 before returning to Alumni Field for the rematch on Sunday, Oct. 16. Kick off for the road contest is set for 8:15 p.m., while the home game is slated to begin at 3:15 p.m. and be streamed on OUA.TV.
