HAMILTON - Entering the final match of the regular season as the No. 8 ranked team in the country, the Brock Badgers women's rugby team fell short in a 24-20 loss to the McMaster Marauders in Hamilton on Friday night.
A regular season finale with critical playoff implications, both teams entered the contest with identical 3-2 records and fourth place in the OUA standings on the line.
Brock delivered in a successful opening half taking a 15-12 lead into the halftime break. However, in front of the home crowd the Marauders were able to rally back and behind the strength of a three try evening from Osa Olaye capture the fourth spot in the standings heading into the OUA playoffs.
Scoring for the Badgers came via two
Matalyn Lee tries and a single marker from
Laura Brown. Lee was also credited with a successful convert, while
Sierra Austin registered a penalty goal.
With the loss the Badgers will slip down to fifth place to conclude the OUA regular season. Entering the OUA playoffs Brock will hit the road on Saturday, Oct. 15 with an opponent and time to be determined for a postseason showdown.
