WATERLOO - Rebounding on the road, the Brock Badgers women's soccer team earned a hard fought 1-0 victory over the Laurier Golden Hawks in Waterloo on Friday afternoon.
Following a slow first half which was primarily played in the middle of the pitch with only one shot on goal recorded between either team, the intensity ratcheted up in the second half with both sides looking to break the deadlock.
While the Badgers thrived with the increased physicality, the Golden Hawks desperation led to some untimely fouls as the home side accrued four second half yellow cards. Meanwhile, first-year forward
Jenna Parris was able to take advantage of the miscommunications within the Golden Hawks defence and score what would become the game-winning goal in the 59th minute of play.
Starting in net for the second consecutive game, Badgers keeper
Isabelle Newkirk made two saves in the clean sheet, while the Brock back line of
Emily Cirone,
Grace Tawil,
Makenna Williamson, and
Erica D'Alesio were also impressive in the win.
The Badgers final road game of the season will come a week after the win on Friday, Oct. 14 when they travel to challenge the Guelph Gryphons. Kick off is scheduled for 6 p.m.
