Badgers suffer late game collapse on home ice

ST CATHARINES – Playing in the last of three consecutive home games at Canada Games Park, the Brock Badgers women's hockey team dropped a 4-2 Saturday afternoon contest to the visiting Windsor Lancers.

The Badgers attacked the Lancers with a renewed vigor early in the game, outshooting Windsor 30-10 through 40 minutes. However, neither team were able to break through for an opening goal.

The defensive stalemate came to an end just past the midway point of the third period when first-year defence Marin Green converted a perfectly placed shot in tight to score a shorthanded marker and give the Badgers a 1-0 lead. The goal was the first career marker for Green.

Windsor would not take long to respond, scoring just as the very same powerplay came to an end to even the game 1-1. From there the Lancers scored two more within just 30 seconds of each other, before adding an empty-net goal to pull away in the final five minutes.

With just nine seconds remaining in the contest Brock second-year forward Madeline Nicholson would score one more for the Badgers sending a quick shot off the post and in.

Badgers goalie Kenzie Harmison finished the night with 17 total saves, while Lancers goaltender Kristen Swiatoschik recorded 38 stops in the win.

Brock now begins a four game road swing which will start tomorrow in Toronto versus the York Lions. Puck drop for the road games is scheduled for 4:15 p.m. with all the action available to stream on OUA.TV.
