TORONTO - WIn their final event of the fall semester, the Brock Badgers men's and women's wrestling team once again found success in Toronto competing at the York Open.
In total the Badgers saw seven podium results led by first place finishes for
Samantha Adams,
Brianna Fraser, and
Bobby Narwal.
In a three round format Adams earned a fall victory over Algoma and a 4-1 decision versus McMaster en route to the 67kg category win. For Adams, the win marked her third first place result after also picking up gold at the McMaster Invitational and TMU Open.
Facing a similar three round bracket, Fraser easily knocked off Algoma and Concordia to claim the 76kg top step. She most recently also claimed first place south of the border at the East Stroudsburg Invitational in Pennsylvania.
Finally, the veteran Narwal earned a 13-2 win over Vanier, fall victory over Queen's, another 13-2 win over Toronto, and a 12-0 finals victory over AOC Wrestling Club to claim the 72kg category.
Podium results were rounded out by a second place finish in her first competition for Bronwyn Macgregor in the 59kg event, a third place result in the 63kg category for
Michaela Rankin, second place in the men's 68kg for
Gabriel Blanchette, and third place for
Roger Li in the 125kg event.
The Brock women placed first overall in the team category with 31 total points, ahead of Concordia (27), Western (27), McMaster (25), and Guelph (15). On the men's side the Badgers placed third with 21 points scored, behind Independent Wrestling Club (24) and McMaster (29). In the overall team rankings Brock (52) finished just two points behind fellow national contenders McMaster (54), while Western rounded out the podium (46).
Next on the calendar for the Badgers is the Brock Invitational scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 14 in the new year.
