WATERLOO – The Brock Badgers women's hockey team earned a 2-1 shootout win over the Laurier Golden Hawks in Waterloo on Friday evening.
After knocking off the Waterloo Warriors just a week prior, Brock was able to double-up against the Waterloo-based opponents with the victory over Laurier.
Following a scoreless first period, both the Badgers and Golden Hawks were able to secure a second period goal. Laurier were first to break the deadlock as they took advantage of a large crowd in front of the Brock net to bang in the first goal of the game just two minutes into the second period. However, the Badgers answered right back as
Camie Matteau Rushbrook registered her first career OUA goal at the four minute mark of the second frame.
After neither team were able to capitalize in the final 20 minutes of regulation and the 3-on-3 overtime frame, a shootout was needed. Both Brock goaltender
Tiffany Hsu and Laurier goalie Acadia Carlson were walls, forcing the shootout into a ninth round.
It was then that
Mishayla Christensen delivered a perfect shot that beat Carlson to secure the road win for the Badgers. The shootout winner is the second of the season for Christensen who also scored in Brock's 1-0 shootout victory over Queen's earlier this fall.
Brock returns home to Canada Games Park tomorrow afternoon to face the Western Mustangs on home ice. Puck drop is set for 7 p.m. Tickets for the game can be purchased at
