TORONTO – The Brock Badgers women's basketball team opened their 2022-23 OUA campaign with an impressive 70-49 win over the Toronto Varsity Blues on Friday night.
The Badgers were dominant from the opening tip, jumping out to a quick 17-9 lead after the first quarter. Brock's defensive pressure would continue to be the difference as they held Toronto to just five points in the second and just 24.6 percent from the field throughout the entirety of the game.
Leading the Badgers offensively,
Madalyn Weinert registered a game-high 15 points in the win, adding eight rebounds, two assists, and three steals to round out her stat line.
Also reaching double-digits for Brock,
Theresa Brown finished the night with 13 points, while
Oluwatito Akinnusi scored nine off the bench.
Following the season opener on the road, the Badgers now return to Bob Davis Gym tomorrow evening for their home opener against the Laurier Golden Hawks. Tickets for the contest can be purchased at brocku.universitytickets.com, while the game is also available online via OUA.TV.
