ST CATHARINES - Returning to their home ice at Canada Games Park, the Brock Badgers men's hockey team secured a 5-2 victory over the York Lions on Saturday night.
Brock utilized a fast start to quickly jump up 3-0 in the first period. The margin forced the Lions into utilizing an empty-net attack during the third period, and despite the visitors breaking the shutout, the hole would be too deep for Lions to climb out of.
Both
Cole Thiessen and
Adam Berg finished the night with three points. Thiessen picked up an assist on the first two goals of the night, before scoring the third Badgers marker in the first period. Meanwhile, Berg made the primary assist on
Zachary Taylor's game opening goal, before scoring on the powerplay midway through the first period and adding an empty-net goal in the third. Veteran forward
Justin Brack rounded out the goal scorers for Brock with another third period empty-net goal.
Brock goalie
Andy MacLean earned his first career OUA win in his first career OUA start. The former St. Catharines Falcon made 26 saves in his debut.
