ST CATHARINES – The Brock Badgers women's hockey team fell 1-0 to the visiting Ontario Tech Ridgebacks at Canada Games Park on Saturday afternoon.
The loss marks the second in as many days for Brock as they now hold a 1-2-2-1 (W-L-OTW-OTL) record early in the 2022-23 campaign.
On the ice, the Badgers and Ridgebacks were in a stalemate as both teams exchanged double-digit shots on goal through the first 20 minutes with no success.
In the second, Ontario Tech broke the deadlock as Katie Mikkelsen was able to find the back of the Brock net on the powerplay at the 15 minute mark.
From there the Badgers put on the pressure as they attempted to score an equalizer. The best of chances came late in the third period when the Ridgebacks goaltender Brooke Vial found herself out of position and Brock forward
Madison Cronkwright sent a shot towards the open net that just missed wide.
Badgers goalie
Tiffany Hsu conceded just the one goal while recording 31 saves in the Saturday matchup. For Vial, her 33 saves led to her first shut out of the new season.
After back-to-back losses on home ice, Brock will look to end their slide next Saturday, Nov. 12 when they challenge the Windsor Lancers in the last of three straight games at Canada Games Park. Puck drop is scheduled for 4 p.m. Tickets for the game can be purchased at brocku.universitytickets.com, while the game will also be streamed on OUA.TV.
