ST. CATHARINES - Playing their first of three games in four days, the Brock Badgers men's hockey team defeated the visiting York Lions 4-2 at Canada Games Park on Thursday night.
The Badgers were lifted to victory by a hat-trick performance from second-year forward
Jacob Roach, who also added an assist to finish with four points in the win. The hat-trick is the first of his OUA career, while he has also produced seven points over the last four games for Brock.
On the ice on Thursday evening the Badgers were first on the board as Roach was able to force a turnover at centre-ice before streaking down the left wing and depositing a perfectly placed wrister past the York goalie.
As the physicality between the two teams picked up in the second period, the Lions were able to draw even with a powerplay marker from Lucas Breault just two minutes into the frame. However, the Badgers would keep the pressure up forcing York into several untimely penalties. The Lions finished the evening with over 40 minutes of penalties, while conceding two powerplay goals in the deciding third period.
Both third period powerplay goals for Brock came just 30 seconds apart as Badgers captain
Jared Marino delivered a long point shot to jump ahead 2-1, quickly followed by another Roach goal from the slot.
Despite the Lions getting one back late, Roach would seal the victory with an empty-net goal.
Brock starting goaltender
Aidan Hughes made 19 saves for his second win of the season, while York goaltender Cole Ceci made 41 saves in the loss.
The Badgers are right back on the ice tomorrow evening as they travel to face the Guelph Gryphons. Puck drop for the road game is set for 7:30 p.m. with the game available to stream on
OUA.TV.
