Brock falls to No. 6 Ottawa in first half finale

ST. CATHARINES – The Brock Badgers women's basketball team fell 60-49 to the No. 6 nationally ranked Ottawa Gee-Gees at Bob Davis Gymnasium on Sunday afternoon to conclude the first half of the OUA season.

Brock finishes the fall semester with a 5-4 record which was the result of an impressive four-game winning streak to begin the 2022-23 campaign, along with a victory over the No. 9 ranked Carleton Ravens earlier this weekend.

In the Sunday contest, the Gee-Gees were able to jump out to an early lead, though the Badgers kept step-for-step. However, the deficit proved too much for Brock even with the home team putting together a 21 point fourth quarter.

Recording her second consecutive 20-point scoring performance, Madalyn Weinert led all players with a game-high 20, adding 13 rebounds to notch her third double-double of the season so far. She added two steals and one block defensively on the day as well.

Brock second-year forward Madison MacInnis registered eight points and five rebounds in 17 minutes of action.

For the Gee-Gees, Brigitte Lefebvre Okankwu led the way with a team-high 18 points, while Oksana Gouchie-Provencher finished with 10 points, seven rebounds, and an impressive eight blocks.

The Badgers will return to the court in the new year beginning on the road versus the Queen's Gaels on Friday, Jan. 6. The game will be online via OUA.TV.
