Game Recap: Men's Basketball | | Stephen Leithwood

Barnes’ big night leads No. 5 Badgers past Lancers

Brock men's basketball team plays first game in more than two months

Jesse Barnes scored a career-high 20 points as the No. 5 Brock men's basketball team made a thunderous return to the hardcourt during a 103-68 win in Windsor on Saturday, Feb. 12.

Barnes couldn't be stopped as the 6-foot-5 forward went 10-for-15 (.667) from field goal range to help Brock score 100-plus points for the third time this season. He added two blocks and four rebounds.

The match was Brock's first game in more than two months due to the COVID-19 pandemic and Barnes' first start of the season after overcoming injury.

"It means a lot to me, especially being someone who hasn't played since the preseason in October because of an injury and then the season's postponement for the past couple of months," Barnes said. "It felt good to be back on the floor and compete with my teammates again."

The Badgers led 54-29 at halftime.

Tajinder Lall recorded his first double-double this season with 14 points and 14 rebounds.

Brock posted its sixth game of 40 rebounds or more as they outrebounded Windsor 46-35.

Kascius Small-Martin scored 19 points. He helped the Badgers register a season-high three-point shooting percentage (48.1). Small-Martin connected on four three-pointers on six attempts while Daniel Caldwell tallied a trio of threes en route to 13 points.

The Badgers improved to 8-0 and sit in first in the Ontario University Athletics (OUA) West Division. The team has seven games remaining on their new regular-season schedule. Five of those games will be at home.

"We're considering this the start to a new season, and we're looking forward to continuing to get better and the new challenge ahead of us," added Barnes.

Up next, the Badgers (8-0) return to St. Catharines to host the second-place McMaster Marauders (6-2) on Wednesday, Feb. 16 at 8 p.m. Livestream the game on OUA.tv.
