Game Recap: Women's Hockey | | Stephen Leithwood

Badgers hand No. 9 Warriors first regulation loss of the season

Hollowell wins OUA debut

First-year goalie Keelee Hollowell made 20 saves in her Ontario University Athletics (OUA) debut to backstop the Brock women's hockey team to a 3-1 road victory in Waterloo on Tuesday, Feb. 22.

Rebekah Feld scored two goals, and Mishayla Christensen scored a goal and added an assist as Brock won their third consecutive clash with Waterloo.

The Badgers handed the No. 9-ranked Warriors their first regulation loss of the season as they improved to 5-4-2-2 and are third in the OUA West.

"This is a huge win for us. The energy on the bench and in the change room was unreal. We faced a lot of adversity, knowing Waterloo is a strong team," Feld said. "I'm beyond proud of our team for how we stepped up and played. Huge shoutout for Keelee on winning her first OUA game."

Hollowell said she quickly shook off nerves, and an early Waterloo goal, to make several highlight-reel saves to shut down the Warriors' power-play unit on all seven of their opportunities.

The Niagara Falls native made double-digit saves in the third period as Waterloo outshot Brock 11-3.

"I was nervous going into the game, but once I hit the ice, my nerves settled," said Hollowell, a Psychology student. "Our women played solid. They battled hard, and I couldn't have done it without them playing so strong."

Christensen tied the game up with a power-play goal with 40 seconds remaining in the first frame as Avery Vickers registered an assist.

Feld scored twice in the second period. Her go-ahead goal would stand as the game-winner.

"The first goal was off of a great play by my linemates, Emma Irwin and Mishayla Christensen, getting pucks to the net," Feld said. "I got a perfect rebound on my backhand, brought it to my forehand and got it in the mesh."

Feld then notched her first short-handed OUA goal at the 17:10 mark.

Irwin tallied two assists to extend her point streak to three games for a total of two goals and six points.

The Badgers (5-4-2-2) host the Guelph Gryphons (4-1-4-1) on Saturday, Feb. 26 at 5:15 p.m. Tickets must be pre-purchased through University Tickets.
