No. 4 Brock races past Waterloo 87-72

The No. 4 Brock men's basketball team throttled the visiting Waterloo Warriors 87-72 in their first game with fans at Bob Davis Gymnasium on Wednesday, Feb. 23.

The Badgers improved to 10-1 on the season. Led by 18 from Jesse Barnes, four players scored in double figures. The Badgers shot 45.9 per cent from the field and turned the ball over only seven times, a season-best.

Jordan Tchuente posted a career-high 15 points off the bench alongside the Badgers' leading scorer, Tajinder Lall, who scored 15 while delivering the exclamation point with a slam in the closing seconds.

Tchuente, a 6-foot-6 forward from Ottawa, caught six rebounds threw down a pair of blocks while connected on five-of-seven free throws.

"Coming in as a first-year player, I'm learning a lot from coach Willy Manigat. He's taught me how to elevate my game," Tchuente said. "He's helped me figure out a lot about my game. It's a learning process, and I'm grateful to be here."

The victory was Brock's ninth straight win over Waterloo, as the Badgers haven't lost to the Warriors since 2014.

Kascius Small-Martin contributed 13 points and seven boards, with Isaiah Bujdoso and Daniel Caldwell each chipping in eight points.

Brock has outrebounded its opponent for 11 consecutive games as the Badgers collected 40 boards compared to the Warriors' 29.

At halftime, Brock led 35-29 and opened the third quarter on a 10-2 run.

Brock bounced back after suffering their first loss of the season to McMaster on Feb. 19. The Badgers have one more road game before three consecutive home games before the OUA playoffs.

"We know what we have to fix in our game," Tchuente said. "We are our biggest competition. If we push each other every day then we're ready for any opponent."

The Badgers (10-1) visit Waterloo for a rematch with the Warriors (4-5) on Saturday, Feb. 26 at 6 p.m. Livestream the game on OUA.tv.
