No. 3 Badgers hold off Warriors, advance to OUA semifinals

The No. 3 Brock women's volleyball team survived a scare from the Waterloo Warriors to open the Ontario University Athletics (OUA) playoffs.

The Badgers defeated the Warriors 3-0 (25-20, 25-21, 25-16) at Bob Davis Gymnasium on Saturday, March 12.

"It' playoff volleyball, so we're going to get the best of every team," said head coach Steve Delaney. "It's good to be pushed like that because then we know we can play under that kind of pressure."

Brock advances to the semifinal on Wednesday, March 16 where they will host the Western Mustangs at 7 p.m.

A pair of first-year outside hitters led the Badgers attack as Laurin Ainsworth and Madison Chimienti each scored 11 kills. Setter Sara Rohr contributed 37 assists and 14 digs.

Brock held off the Warriors to narrowly win the first set before Ainsworth tallied three consecutive kills to give Brock the lead.

The 11 kills were a career-high for Ainsworth, who brings a radiant energy to lineup said senior Christina Jovetic.

"Laurin shines throughout the court. She kept swinging and made all the shots she knows she can make," Jovetic said. "Laurin knew she had a big role coming into the game today, and no one ever doubted her."

Jovetic and the Badgers registered a season-high 10 blocks. Jovetic and Grace Pyatt combined for seven blocks.
