Badgers rally to tame Tigers on Day 2 of U SPORTS Championships

The future is bright for the Brock women's volleyball team.

The Badgers opened Day 2 of the U SPORTS Women's Volleyball Championships by rallying to win their first game on the national stage.

In the consolation semifinal, the No. 2 Badgers dropped the first set before winning three straight to tame the No. 6 Dalhousie Tigers 3-1 (21-25, 25-17, 25-23, 25-21) at the University of Calgary on Saturday, March 26.

Three first-year Badgers combined for 44 kills as outside hitters Emily Foest (15), Sadie Dick (15) and Madison Chimienti (14) lit up the scoreboard at Jack Simpson Gymnasium.

"We're witnessing all of these little bits of growth at each position, with each player, and it's huge for our program's future," said U SPORTS Fox 40 Coach of the Year Steve Delaney. "We were more confident as we bounced back from a tough loss yesterday."

The Badgers have an opportunity to finish fifth in the country as they advance to the consolation final on Sunday, March 27 at 2 p.m. EST.

Brock awaits the winner of the second semifinal game between the host No. 8 Calgary Dinos and a familiar foe in the No. 4 Toronto Varsity Blues, whom they defeated to win their first Ontario University Athletics (OUA) Championship title on March 19.

Foest was named Brock's Top Performer as she registered 15 kills on 27 swings for a career-high .407 hitting percentage. She added seven digs.

"We were focused on playing as one. Today's game proved that we are a team and not just a bunch of individual players," said Foest, a Medical Sciences student from Fonthill. "This has been an incredible first year as a Badger. It's a great experience and exposed me to a whole new level of volleyball. I'm excited for the next couple of years."

For Dalhousie, their season comes to an end. The Atlantic University Sport (AUS) champions enjoyed a strong campaign which saw them place third in the conference en route to capturing their ninth consecutive championship by overcoming first-place Saint Mary's.

"Brock is a really strong serving team and they caught us a few times on serve-receive," said senior outside hitter Victoria Turcott, who was named Player of the Match for Dalhousie. "In the end, the most important part is first contact and they did a better job than us at siding out passing, and serve-receive. That was the difference between the win and the loss today."
