Women's rugby in tough versus reigning national champions

KINGSTON - The Brock Badgers women's rugby team fell 64-0 in Kingston on Saturday afternoon versus the defending U SPORTS champion and No. 1 nationally ranked Queen's Gaels.

Facing what could be their toughest opponent all season long, the Badgers held up fairly well in the early goings making several strong defensive tackles to prevent the Gaels from reaching the try zone in the opening minutes. After Queen's scored 105 points in their season opening win the week prior, Brock made it much tougher on the reigning national champions. However, the Gaels couldn't be held out forever and took a 31-0 lead into the half.

Following the break action remained consistent as Queen's was able to dominate much of the possession, but the Badgers tacklers were not set to give in. Tackle-after-tackle forced the Gaels to earn each bit of forward momentum until the final try and convert scored in the final seconds to result in the 64-0 finish.

The women's rugby squad will remain on the road traveling to Waterloo to challenge the Warriors on Friday, Sept. 16. Kick-off is set for 4 p.m.
