ST. CATHARINES - Challenging the Windsor Lancers for the second time in just a few days the Brock Badgers women's soccer team fell 1-0 in the hard fought home opener on Sunday afternoon.
Welcoming fans to Alumni Field for the first home game of the 2022 season the Badgers were down quickly as the home side conceded a goal just 30 seconds into action. Moving exeptionally quick down the field off the kick off it was Alexa Megnon who scored for the Lancers.
Despite the early goal the contest transitioned to an even matchup as both teams produced several offensive opportunities, especiialy with the Badgers consistently looking for an equalizer. Up front first-year forward
Jenna Parris made several outside runs producing two shots on goal in the match, while second-year forward
Brianna Bishop delivered two near goals off long free kicks.
The strongest opportunity for Brock came near the 50 minute mark of the match when the Badgers were able to draw a foul in the Lancers box resulting in a penalty kick. Stepping to the spot Bishop delivered a strong low kick, but Windsor's 2021 OUA all-star keeper Lauren Gellner was up to the task as she was able to get a hand on the ball to turn it aside. Gellner finished the contest with six total saves.
Brock goalkeeper
Emma Hendrie was also impressive in net following the early goal, putting a halt to several Lancer attacks and recording two total saves, while defenders
Grace Tawil and
Makenna Williamson were strong on the Badgers back line.
