ST CATHARINES - The final match of Brock University's Homecoming weekend, the men's soccer team battled to a 0-0 draw against the visiting Western Mustangs on Sunday afternoon at Alumni Field.
With the tie the Badgers improve to 4-0-3 on the season, extending their undefeated streak to begin the 2022 campaign to seven matches. Brock is only one of three teams that remains undefeated in the OUA sharing the accomplishment with York and Carleton.
In the Sunday afternoon contest both the Badgers and Mustangs had to contend with the elements as inclement weather persisted throughout the entirety of the 90 minutes. Near the 70 minute mark the game was forced to come to a temporary halt due to developing lightning in the area, but play was eventually able to resume with neither side being able to find an advantage.
Brock received strong defensive play from a trio of veteran defenders in
Nolan Bosetti,
Luca Ragagnin, and
Victor Kariuki. Combined with another outstanding showing from Badgers keeper
Taylor Miskolczi, who notched his sixth clean sheet on four total saves, the men's team continued to display themselves as a contender this season.
Prior to kick-off, Brock also welcomed back a number of men's soccer alumni, including several players from the 2002 CIS national championship winning team. This year marks the 20th anniversary of the only national banner in Brock men's soccer history.
Brock will look to keep their undefeated streak alive when they next welcome the McMaster Marauders to Alumni Field on Friday, Sept. 30. Kick-off is scheduled for 8:15 p.m. with the game also being streamed on OUA.TV.
