ST CATHARINES - After starting the season undefeated through seven matches to begin the 2022 campaign, the Brock Badgers men's soccer team suffered their first loss falling 1-0 to the McMaster Marauders on Friday night at Alumni Field.
A back-and-forth first half saw opportunities for the Badgers to open the scoring come from the foot of
Connor Carroll in the 17th minute and
Luca Danesi in the 32nd. However, neither team was able to find mesh as it remained a 0-0 stalemate heading into the halftime break.
Early in the second half it was Ed Bryan Florent breaking the deadlock for the Marauders as they jumped ahead 1-0 in the 57th minute from a precision delivery.
Knowing their unbeaten streak was on the line the Badgers ramped up the intensity and pressure, highlighted by two header chances on goal from defender
Victor Kariuki who pushed forward with every set piece opportunity. Brock was unable to find an equalizer though before the final whistle.
The Badgers will look to bounce back following a week long break, next heading to Waterloo to challenge the Laurier Golden Hawks on Friday, Oct. 7. Kick off for the road contest is scheduled for 3:15 p.m.
