ST CATHARINES - The Brock Badgers women's soccer team dropped a 1-0 decision to the visiting McMaster Marauders on Friday evening at Alumni Field.
Brock started the contest strong maintaining possession throughout the first 30 minutes while putting together some excellent passing resulting in chances on goal. This included two shots on net from forward
Jenna Parris who was a threat up front for the Badgers.
However, a shift in the game came in the 35th minute when a foul resulting in a yellow card to second-year Brock defender
Grace Tawil provided the Marauders with a free kick opportunity. Tiam Pourbakhtiari converted that free kick into what would become the game-winning goal for McMaster, sending a shot into the top left corner from distance.
Following the halftime break, Brock played with a sense of urgency as they looked to make runs down either side of the pitch, while also trying to connect on long through balls. Despite the constant push forward, the Badgers were unable to come up with too many chances on net until the final minutes. Parris, Tawil,
Shannon Brown, and
Cerrina Toromoreno all had shots on goal, but none were able to find an equalizer before time expired.
Isabelle Newkirk finished the night with two saves for the Badgers, while Ali Mudie recorded nine saves in the clean sheet win for McMaster.
Brock will have time to regroup as they next head to Waterloo to challenge the Laurier Golden Hawks on Friday, Oct. 7. Kick off for the road game is scheduled for 6 p.m.
