Game Recap: Women's Hockey | | Jordon Hall

Women's hockey ends recent slide with big home win over No. 8 Waterloo

THOROLD - The Brock Badgers women's hockey team showed a spark on home ice as they defeated the visiting No. 8 nationally ranked Waterloo Warriors 4-1 at Canada Games Park on Friday night.

The win puts an end to a recent five-game losing skid, while also marking the first win on home ice in the new year.

Brock were determined from the opening face-off as they put the pressure immediately on the Warriors, outshooting Waterloo 13-6 in the opening frame. The consistent pressure resulted in two first period goals, with Rebekah Feld scoring from the slot just three minutes in, while Paige Cohoon added the Badgers second off a big rebound in front of the Waterloo net. Brock took a 2-1 lead into the intermission.

A much more even contest in the second period, both Badgers starting goalie Kenzie Harmison and Warriors goaltender Kara Mark made several impressive saves. However, it was the Badgers who found the net once again with Marisa Freeman scoring her first career goal with a quick shot off a draw just to the right of Mark.

Not going down without a fight, the nationally ranked Warriors put all the pressure they could on the Badgers in the third period, but Harmison was up to the task finishing the night with 23 total saves to secure her second win of the season. A final empty-net goal by Claudia Murphy rounded out the night for Brock.

The Badgers are right back at it tomorrow afternoon facing the Guelph Gryphons at Canada Games Park. Tickets can be purchased at brocku.university.tickets.com and the game can be streamed online via OUA.tv.
