Powerplay goals propel Badgers to impressive win

LONDON – Completing a three-game road swing in London versus the Western Mustangs, the Brock Badgers men's hockey team earned an impressive 5-2 win on Friday night.

Possessing one of the top five powerplay units in the province this season, Brock was able to take advantage of an undisciplined Western side, resulting in three powerplay goals for the Badgers in the Friday night showdown.

Zachary Taylor was the first to score for Brock with the man advantage, sending a seeing eye point shot through a crowd to take a 1-0 lead through the opening 20 minutes.

Just two minutes into the second frame, Adam Berg scored his first of two goals in the period for the Badgers, potting his second on the powerrplay immediately after the Mustangs thought they has tied the game back up.

As the seconds ticked away to close out the second period, Jacob Roach would team-leading point total with the third powerplay marker for the Badgers, scoring with under 15 seconds left before the intermission.

Both teams would add a marker in the third period, with Frankie Pucci scoring an empty-netter to seal the victory for Brock. Roman Basran made 25 saves to secure his second win of the new year for the Badgers, while Mustangs goalie Jack McNaughton finished the night with 40 total stops in the heavy pressure outing.

Returning to home ice at Canada Games Park tomorrow afternoon, Brock will look to avenge two road losses versus the Windsor Lancers just a week ago. Puck drop is scheduled for 5 p.m. Tickets for the home game can be purchased at brocku.universitytickets.com, while the game is also streamed online via OUA.tv.
