ST. CATHARINES - After conceding the opening basket, the No. 5 nationally ranked Brock Badgers men's basketball team quickly answered back and proceeded to lead the entirety of the way during a 71-51 victory over the York Lions at Bob Davis Gymnasium on Saturday night.
Brock was relentless on defence, holding the visitors to under 12 points in three of the four quarters, limiting the Lions to just 29 percent shooting from the floor, and outrebounding York 53-27 including a 17-5 disparity in offensive rebounds.
Four of the five Badgers starters reached double-digit scoring, led by a 15 point game-high from fifth-year veteran forward
Jesse Barnes. Fellow forward
Jordan Tchuente registered his fourth consecutive double-double notching 11 points and 10 rebounds, six of which came on the offensive glass. Rounding out the strong performance from the starters,
Jevon Brown notched 12 points, seven rebounds, and four assists, while
Isaiah Bujdoso recorded 10 points, eight rebounds, and four assists.
The Lions were led by Somto Dimanochie and Tyler Pryce who finished with 13 and 11 points apiece.
Of note prior to tip-off in the Saturday night showdown, the Brock Badgers 2021-22 OUA champions were honoured with the unveiling of their provincial banner. As well, at halftime the 2007-08 Brock Badgers CIS national championship team were recognized as they celebrated their 15-year anniversary.
Brock now travels north to challenge the Nipissing Lakers in North Bay and Laurentian Voyageurs in Sudbury. The road trip will begin versus Nipissing on Friday, Jan. 27 with tip-off scheduled for 8 p.m. Both games will be available online via
