GUELPH - Drawing closer and closer to the OUA provincial championships, the Brock Badgers men's and women's wrestling teams continued to fine tune their skills at the Guelph Open this past weekend.
The Badgers finished first overall in the team category, sharing the podium with Western in second place and fellow campus competitors Brock Wrestling Club in third.
On the women's side, the Badgers were led by a first place result from
Mia Friesen in the 57kg event as she defeated opponents from Riverfalls Wrestling, Dino WC, and Western en route to the top step. The Brock women also picked up a second place finish courtesy
Brianna Fraser in the 76kg category, fourth in 62kg with
Michaela Rankin, and fifth in the 68kg event for
Samantha Adams.
The Brock men were topped by a second place finish for
Roger Li in the men's 125kg as he knocked off opponents from McMaster and Saskatchewan before falling in the first place match to another Marauder. The Badgers saw two more podium results with
Jordan Wylie and
Gabriel Blanchette placing third in the 79kg and 70kg categories, respectively. Rounding out top five results,
Callum Knox placed fourth in the 97kg event, while
Bobby Narwal finished fifth in the 74kg bracket.
Brock have one final chance for preparations ahead of the OUA Championships, next traveling to London for the Western Open on Saturday, Jan. 28.
