Badgers put an end to Bold winning ways

TORONTO – Traveling to Toronto for a mid-day puck drop, the Brock Badgers women's hockey team started their weekend with a 4-2 win against the TMU Bold on Friday.

Coming off of a 2-0 loss to the University of Toronto to close out last weekend, the Badgers responded with an impressive victory over TMU, marking their first non-overtime win versus the Bold since January 2017. Brock's record during that span versus TMU now improves to 1-3-2-3 (W-L-OTW-OTL) with their next meeting scheduled for later this season on Saturday, Feb. 11 at Canada Games Park.

Meanwhile, on the ice in the Friday contest, the Badgers were able to crucially kill off three penalties, while scoring a powerplay goal of their own to secure their eighth win of the 2022-23 OUA season.

The Badgers had a fantastic start to the game when Catriona Cormier tallied her fourth goal of the season just nine seconds into the game, receiving a tape-to-tape cross-ice pass from Allison Stevenson to mark the Badgers' quickest goal of the season. The Bold would tie the game halfway through the first period.

Brock then retook the lead with nine minutes to play in the second when Paige Cohoon found a loose puck during a scramble in front of the TMU net and put it home on the powerplay. The Bold responded once again though scoring a powr play goal of their own later in the period. But, with two minutes to play in the frame Mishayla Christensen blasted a slap shot past TMU goaltender Alexia Stratos to give the Badgers their third lead of the game.

The strong play of the Badgers continued in the third period, highlighted by a 27 save performance from goalie Kenzie Harmison who earned her fourth victory of the season. With the Brock defence and Harmison turning aside the Bold attack in the third, Madison Cronkwright put the game away with an empty net marker with just seconds remaining to close out the road win.

The Badgers are right back in action on Saturday, Jan. 28 when they travel to North Bay to visit the Nipissing Lakers. Puck drop is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. at the North Bay Memorial Gardens. The game can be streamed online via OUA.TV.
