Roman Basran made 29 saves to backstop the No. 10 Brock men's hockey team to a 5-3 victory over the Laurier Golden Hawks in his season debut at Canada Games Park on Friday, Jan. 6.

Basran, a Social Sciences student from Richmond, BC, previously played a season with the Mississauga Steelheads of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) and four seasons with the Kelowna Rockets of the Western Hockey League (WHL).

"It was awesome getting the win in my first game," said Basran. "The team played great in front of me and we're looking to keep it rolling tomorrow."
Christian Girhiny scored the game-winning goal and the Brock men's hockey team returned from the holiday break with their first victory of 2023.

The Badgers and Golden Hawks traded goals through the first two periods before Girhiny's goal midway through the third would stand as the game winner.

Jacob Roach and
Cole Tymkin and defenceman
Cole Thiessen each tallied two assists.

Captain Jaren Marino, Zach Taylor and

Christian DeDonato also registered an assist in his first game of the season.

For Laurier, Grayden Gottschalk scored two goals while Tyler Davis added a marker. Laurier goalie faced 32 shots.

Brock returns to the ice on Saturday, Jan. 7 when they welcome the Toronto Metropolitan University Bold at Canada Games Park. Puck drop is 4 p.m. Tickets can be purchased at
