The Brock Badgers stay undefeated on the season as they came away with a 6-0 victory against the No. 8 ranked Queen's Gaels on Friday (Oct. 20) night.
The first period ended with no scoring but saw the Badgers double Queen's in shots 16-8. Late in the period, Sophomores Matthew Riva and Ethan Sims combined for a strong chance on goal but Queen's goaltender Aidan Spooner had the net covered.
With just over two minutes left in the period, goaltender Connor Ungar was tasked with making a fantastic save on a Gaels one-timer that kept the game scoreless into the first intermission.
The Brock Badgers opened the scoring early in the second period after Hamilton product Jordan Stock forced a turnover in front of Queen's net, resulting in forward Christophe Cote receiving the puck in the slot and rifling it past Spooner.
After a flurry of penalties in the second period, the Badgers made the score 2-0. Fifth-year forward Justin Brack made a dazzling play to fool the Queen's defensemen, before crossing the puck over to sophomore Ryan Stepien who buried the puck on a one-timer.
Just seconds into a penalty kill and near the end of the second period, Stock and Cote found themselves on a massive 2-on-1, with Stock finding Cote yet again who put the Badgers up 3-0.
Sophomore defenceman Rylan Thiessen made the score 4-0 for the Badgers just 3:29 into the third period. The Brandon, MB product made a darting rush into the offensive zone by himself, with his shot fooling the screened Queen's goalie.
Brock increased their advantage to a five-goal lead after capitalizing on a man-advantage rush just seconds after successfully killing off a power play. Stock found third-year forward Jacob Roach, who then slung the puck over to an open Sims who converted the goal. The Mount Hope, Ont product picked up his third goal of the season on the play.
Riva scored his third of the season on an unassisted goal with just over a minute left in the game.
Ungar has picked up his province-leading fifth win of the season. The first-year goalie stopped all 29 shots he faced, recording his first shutout of the season for the Badgers.
Stock led the Badgers with three assists in the game, giving him four in his last two contests.
The Badgers finished the game with an impressive 39 shots, including a game-high 16 in the first period.
