Tyler Burnie scored two goals and the Brock men's hockey team opened the Ontario University Athletics (OUA) regular season with a 5-2 victory over the Lakehead Thunderwolves at Canada Games Park on Friday, Oct. 6.

Matthew Riva scored a goal and added an assist while
Ethan Sims and
Justin Brack each added a goal.

Brock's First-year goaltender,
Connor Ungar, recorded the win in between the pipes with 19 saves.

The Brock team took a 2-0 lead in the first period with goals from Burnie and Riva. The first goal came on a power play, with Burnie converting the opportunity with assists from Zach Taylor and
Jacob Roach.

The second featured Brock extending their lead to 3-0 with a goal by
Ethan Sims on a pass from Riva. Defenceman
Matthew Barnes also registered an assist on the marker.

Brack made it 4-0 in the final frame before Lakehead's goals courtesy of Joe Mack and Ben Badalamenti, but it wasn't enough to overcome Brock's lead.

Burnie sealed the victory for Brock with an empty-net goal.
Â
Both teams had their share of penalties, but Brock's strong offensive performance ultimately secured the victory.

Brock outshot Lakehead 26-19.
