The Brock Badgers women's basketball team had their first road game of the year on Saturday, Nov. 11 which ended in a 71-48 defeat against the TMU Bold in Toronto.
Junior guard
Madalyn Weinert had another strong game for the Badgers, keeping her hot start to the season rolling with 11 points, seven rebounds, four assists, two blocks and one steal. The local St. Catharines product is now averaging 21.3 points per game this year which is the most in Ontario University Athletics (OUA).
In the first quarter, both teams came out struggling to make shots and establish an early lead.
A couple of nice transition baskets late had the Badgers ahead 12-9 after the first quarter.
In the second, TMU started to heat up a little bit shooting the ball from the outside and were able to form a multiple possession lead.
Brock came back strong with great offensive plays from
Shailah Adams,
Madison MacInnis, and Weinert and were able to get the lead down to 25-23 in favour of TMU at halftime.
Coming out of the halftime break, the Bold went on a big scoring run as they started to make shots from everywhere.
The Badgers tried hard to stop the TMU momentum but couldn't string together quality offensive possessions until late in the quarter.
Brock ended the third quarter strong but TMU held a 53-36 lead.
In the fourth quarter, Brock fought hard but couldn't get their deficit below 10.
Towards the end of the game TMU was able to stretch their lead out again.
