Senior defenceman
Matthew Barnes' first goal of the year propelled the No. 5 Brock Badgers men's hockey team to its fifth consecutive win, a 2-1 victory over the Laurier Golden Hawks at Canada Games Park, on Sunday, Nov. 12.
Brock remains atop of the Ontario University Athletics (OUA) conference with a record of 11-1, and is currently tied for second in U SPORTS with UBC.
The Badgers set the tone early with a flurry of offensive pressure throughout the first. Brock outshot Laurier 16-8, but the frame remained scoreless.
Laurier's Patrick Brown opened the scoring with a power-play goal at 3:40 of the second before first-year blueliner
Jonah Boria tied the game up with a wrap-around goal just seven minutes later.
With the match deadlocked midway through the third period, Barnes blocked a shot during a 2-on-1 rush before carrying it end-to-end and beating the Hawks goalie short side for the eventual game-winner.
Brock netminder
Connor Ungar made 32 saves, including a pair highlight-reel saves late in the third. He leads the OUA with 11 wins.
Up next, the Brock Badgers (11-1-0) return to Canada Games Park as they host the Guelph Gryphons (6-5-0) on Friday, Nov. 17 at 6 p.m. Purchase your tickets online at
