Jacob Roach scored the final three goals for the No. 5 Badgers as they defeated the Guelph Gryphons 6-3 at Canada Games Park on Friday, Nov. 17.
Along with Roach, Jordan Stock, Tyler Burnie and Zachary Taylor all found the back of net, with Burnie finishing with three assists to lead the Badgers with four points.
Early on in the contest, neither team could find the scoreboard despite each having numerous chances.
Stock, a second-year forward, broke the deadlock at the 14:21 mark for his third goal of the season.
The Badgers controlled most of the momentum, outshooting the Gryphons 18-10 in the first. Brock headed into the locker room with a 1-0 lead.
In the second period, Guelph came out firing, generating a lot of pressure. This renewed energy powered the Gryphons to two straight goals.
Liam Ham tied things up at 11:59 and five minutes later, Anthony Tabak scored his fifth to give the Gryphons the lead.
The Badgers continued fighting, scoring two of their own to retake the lead. Burnie scored his team-leading ninth of the year to even things up. 38 seconds later, Taylor found the back of the net by shifting Guelph goaltender Tanner Wickware out of position, earning his fifth of the year.
Brock's furious comeback in the second put them ahead by one.
Roach's eighth goal of the year gave the Badgers a two-goal advantage at the 7:06 mark of the third. Less than a minute later, the Gryphons answered as Hunter Brazier got on the scoreboard.
With 6:02 left, the Badgers earned their fifth goal as Roach scored his second of the contest. The third-year forward then earned a hat trick on an empty-net goal to seal the game for the Badgers.
First-year goaltender Connor Ungar earns his sixth consecutive victory behind the pipes, sporting an OUA-best 1.73 goals against average.
Up next, the No. 5 Badgers (12-1-0) will travel to Toronto for a battle of ranked teams as Brock will take on the No. 7 Varsity Blues (9-4-0) at 7 p.m.
