Badgers demonstrate fight in tight loss to No. 8 Ravens

The Brock Badgers men's basketball team dropped a tightly contested 69-63 bout with the nationally ranked Carleton Ravens on Friday, Nov 17 in Ottawa.

Fifth-year guard Jevon Brown led the way for the Badgers with 26 points on 75% shooting while adding 4 rebounds and 3 steals. Guards Kevaughn Ellis and Nemanja Sarkanovic also added 15 and 10 points, respectively.

Both teams struggled to find their shooting early in the first quarter and the game remained low scoring through the first few minutes. The Ravens were finally able to catch some steam as guard Wazir Latiff knocked down a late three-pointer, extending the Carleton lead 16-10 after 10 minutes of play.

The Ravens continued to capitalize on the Badgers struggles from the field, extending their lead to as high as 10. The Badgers quickly began to find their shot from behind the arc as Brown and Ellis traded three-pointers to quiet down the Carleton crowd, giving Brock their first lead of the game. A late jumper from Ravens forward Noah Horobetz Simpson tied the game up at 31-31 at halftime.

The Badgers opened the third quarter continuing to shoot effectively from the field and establishing a large lead. Brock then played lockdown defence, forcing eight turnovers from the Ravens, with Brown capitalizing on the offensive end, scoring seven points on the way to a 48-40 Brock lead.

The Ravens roared right back in the fourth quarter, scoring seven unanswered points which forced an early Badgers timeout. The Badgers responded out of the break, scoring some quick fastbreak points to take the lead back. As time winded down, the Ravens began to pull away. Brown and Ellis tried to lead another surge for the Badgers, but it was too little too late as the Ravens held on for the win.

Next up, the Badgers (3-1) will continue their road trip on Sunday, Nov. 19 at 8 p.m. against the University of Ottawa Gee-Gees (4-0). You can watch the action on OUA.tv.
