The Brock Badgers women's hockey team hosted the TMU Bold on Friday, Nov. 17 at Canada Games Park where they were able to pick up their fifth win of the season by a score of 5-1.
Six schools packed the arena for the School Day Game, providing an electric atmosphere for the players and coaches from both sides.
The Badgers were led by sophomore forward
Jenna Duarte who had two goals and one assist on the day. It was the Duarte's best game in a Badger uniform thus far as she brought her point total to five on the season.
The Badgers got out to a strong start in the first period thanks to Duarte. After Brock was able to kill off a penalty partway through the period, Duarte was sprung on a breakaway by
Madeline Nicholson and the Hamilton native made a highlight-reel deke to score and give Brock the 1-0 lead.
The first period ended with Brock holding the one-goal advantage.
In the second period, Brock kept applying pressure and were able to extend their lead.
First,
Allison Stevenson finished off a beautiful pass from Duarte on a two-on-one to put the Badgers ahead 2-0.
Then while on the power play late in the period, fourth-year forward
Catriona Cormier fired a shot from the point, with junior forwardÂ
Madison Cronkwright scoring on the rebound with a great one-time shot. Cronkwright's third of the year had Brock ahead 3-0 heading into the third period.
In the third, TMU scored early in the period to cut the Brock lead to two. The Badgers quickly responded and extended their lead again through goals from Duarte and
Claudia Murphy. Murphy's goal was her fourth of the season and was the final tally on the night for the Badgers.
Brock goaltender
Kenzie Harmison was strong all game, making 30 saves in the game to help the Badgers take the victory. The Smith Falls, Ont product has backstopped Brock to a two-game winning streak and now has five wins on the year.
Next up, the Badgers (5-3-0-2) host the No. 7Â Toronto Varsity Blues (5-4-1-0) at Canada Games Park on Saturday, Nov. 17 for a 4 p.m. puck drop.
