Game Recap: Men's Hockey |

Third period surge lifts No. 3 Badgers over Bold

Off the heels of receiving their highest national ranking in program history, the Brock Badgers men's hockey team used a late third period flurry to defeat the visiting TMU Bold 6-3 on Friday, Nov. 24 at Canada Games Park.

With the win, the Badgers end the 2023 portion of their schedule undefeated at home, collecting nine wins in that span.

The Badgers received balanced scoring in the victory as Jacob Roach scored two goals while Cole Tymkin, Jared Marino, Ethan Sims and Tyler Burnie each notched one. Brock's power play was also efficient in the contest, scoring two out of their three opportunities.

First-year goaltender Connor Ungar made a game-high 43 saves to earn his league-leading 14th win, putting himself eight above the next best netminder.

The first period saw neither team get on the board. The shots were even after 20 minutes of play as both teams fired 10 apiece.

Tymkin broke the deadlock at the 6:02 mark of the second period after taking advantage of a rebound generated by Roach, giving the Badgers a 1-0 lead. TMU took advantage of a 5-on-3 power play, scoring the equalizer with 4:16 left in the frame. The Bold added another in quick succession off the stick of Kyle Bollers before the Badgers countered, tying things up off a Marino power-play goal.

Brock scored the go-ahead marker with 12:15 remaining in the third as Roach put in his 11th of the year. The Bold answered with less than five minutes left in the third which kick started a wave of goals from Brock. Roach earned his second of the game under a minute later which was then followed by goals from Sims and Burnie to seal the game for the Badgers.

Up next, the Badgers (14-1-0) travel to Waterloo to clash with the Laurier Golden Hawks tomorrow on Saturday, Nov. 25 at 4 p.m. You can watch the action on OUA.tv.
