Game Recap: Men's Hockey | | Theo Wan

Brock remain undefeated at home with win over Windsor

The Brocks Badgers men's hockey team defeated the visiting Windsor Lancers 3-1 on Friday, November 3 at Canada Games Park.

It was a fast start for the Lancers who scored with just 1:14 into the first period, with David Jesus scoring his first of the season.

In a night of firsts, forward Cale Sanders scored his first Ontario University Athletics (OUA) goal in just his second league game midway through the period. The first-year forward's marker tied the contest up.

The two teams headed into the dressing room deadlocked at 1-1. Brock controlled the momentum of the period, outshooting their opponent 13-9.

In the second period, the Badgers lit the lamp early as Matt Durate put in his second of the year, giving Brock a 2-1 lead.

Penalty trouble came upon the Brock side, giving up three in the frame. Offsetting penalties from Brock's Cole Tymkin and Windsor's Aaron Chariot led to some 4-on-4 action.

Despite the bigger space to work with, neither team was able to score and the lead remained 2-1 for the Badgers after 40 minutes of play.

Things picked up in intensity in the third as the Lancers tried to find the equalizer. After a post-whistle scuffle, penalties were handed out to both the Badgers and Lancers. Brock's Olivier Desroches was given a five-minute major for cross-checking and was sent out of the game while Keegan McMullen of the Lancers received two minors for high sticking.

During the extended 4-on-4 play, the Badgers earned their third of the night. Tyler Burnie has had a sensational start to the year and added his seventh of the season at the 6:05 mark. The third-year forward now ranks fourth in the province in goals scored.

A late empty-net goal from the Badgers was waived off, denying a fourth marker for the Badgers. When the final buzzer sounded, Brock celebrated with their fans as they skated away with a 3-1 win.

Brock goaltender Connor Ungar made 31 saves to earn his OUA-leading eighth win of the season. First-year defenceman Jonah Boria led all players with two assists.

With the victory on Friday night, the Badgers remain undefeated at home.

Up next, the Badgers are back at Canada Games Park tomorrow on Saturday, Nov. 4 to welcome in the visiting Ontario Tech Ridgebacks (4-4). Puck drop is set for 4 p.m.
