The Brock Badgers men's basketball team dropped a 73-71 decision on the road against the Waterloo Warriors on Friday, Dec. 1.
Junior forward
Jordan Tchuente led the Badgers with 14 points, five rebounds, two assists and one steal.
Michael Matas had 11 points and 14 rebounds for his first double-double of the season and
Isaiah Bujdoso was able to tally 12 points, five steals and three rebounds.
The Badgers got out to a slow start on offence in this one struggling to find the bottom of the basket early on, but they played some intense team defence to keep themselves close. While the defence did a great job, Waterloo still led at the end of the first quarter 14-12.
Brock started to get their offence going more in the second quarter. Bujdoso scored on the inside and outside to help the Badgers gain some momentum. Brock then really turned up the heat on their full-court pressure, forcing a number of Warrior turnovers. A Matas buzzer-beating three-pointer gave Brock a 40-38 lead at the break after a resilient first half.
In the third quarter, the Badgers extended their lead through some high-paced transition play. Tchuente and
Nemanja Sarkanovic were both able to draw multiple fouls and make Waterloo pay for it by converting at the free throw line. Brock headed into the fourth quarter leading 61-54.
However, the Badgers shooting troubles from the first quarter came back to affect them in the final one. Brock went cold from the outside and Waterloo was able to chip away at the lead throughout the frame. The Warriors eventually took the lead in the final minute of play and Brock couldn't find an answer in their last few possessions.
Next up, the Badgers (4-4) will return to Waterloo on Saturday, Dec. 2 to take on the Wilfred Laurier Golden Hawks (7-2) at 8 p.m.
