Game Recap: Men's Hockey | | Evan Curnew

No. 4 Badgers unable to complete comeback in Ottawa

On Friday, Dec. 1, the nationally ranked Brock Badgers men's hockey team fell 6-3 to the Ottawa Gee-Gees in Ottawa.

Jacob Roach scored a team-leading 13th goal of the Ontario University Athletics (OUA) regular season. Forwards Jordan Stock and Christophe Cote also earned goals in the contest.

The opening period saw the two teams battle back and forth, with the Badgers edging Ottawa in shots 8-7.

The Badgers opened the scoring just 57 seconds into the second period through Roach. The Sport Management major made a nifty move in the slot, firing it past the Gee-Gees goaltender. Ottawa responded with a goal of their own just moments after Roach's opener, tying the game. The scoring continued early in the second frame as the Gee-Gees took the 2-1 lead, just over four minutes into the period.

A double minor penalty for boarding saw the Badgers head to the power play. A well-positioned Stock got a piece of Ethan Sims' initial shot, tying the game at 2-2. Still on the power play, a pass from senior centre Justin Brack allowed Cote to fire home his fourth of the year, putting the Badgers up by one. Ottawa responded by scoring on the power play as well, making it 3-3.

Ottawa found a lead early in the third period and ultimately came away with the victory at home. The Badgers used a strong effort to try to create a come back but the Gee-Gees added two empty-net goals in the last two minutes of play.

Up next, the No. 4 Brock Badgers (14-3-0) will face the Carleton Ravens (8-5-3) on Saturday, Dec. 2 at 7 p.m. in Ottawa. You can follow along on OUA.tv.
