Brock grinds out pivotal road victory

LONDON – The Brock Badgers women's basketball team earned a pivotal 66-54 road victory over the Western Mustangs on Saturday night as the race to the playoffs continue.

With the win, the Badgers find themselves in a tie for eighth place in the OUA alongside Windsor at 11-9. Both teams still have two games remaining in their regular season schedules. The top 12 teams qualify for the OUA postseason, with the top four receiving a first round bye.

Close through the first three quarters of action, it was a 19-11 fourth quarter that helped seal the deal for the Badgers. Most impressive, they pulled down 10 more rebounds than the Mustangs, while outscoring the home side 32-16 in the paint.

On the court, Brock was led by another stellar performance from second-year standout Madalyn Weinert who registered her ninth double-double and seventh 20-plus point scoring game with 25 points and 12 rebounds in the Saturday night contest. She also added five assists, one steal, and one block.

Assisting from the perimeter, Allison Addy chipped in with 11 points, including three made three-point field goals, while Olivia Fiorucci tallied eight points from the mid-range. Rounding out the strong overall team performance, both forwards Chloe Peters and Madison MacInnis provided additional scoring with eight and six points apiece.

The Mustangs top scorer on the evening was Ariane Saumure who finished the loss with a 17 point and 11 rebound double-double.

With just two regular season games remaining, the Badgers will complete a home-and-home series with the TMU Bold beginning at Bob Davis Gymnasium next Friday, Feb. 17. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m. with tickets available through University Tickets and the action livestreamed on OUA.tv.
