The puck dropped on the Brock women's hockey team's 2023-24 season on Saturday, Sept. 16.
Â
The Badgers secured a 2-1 shootout win over the Carleton Ravens from the RSEQ during exhibition play at Canada Games Park.
Â
The first period concluded with the Brock squad drawing first blood at 19:54. Newcomer
Tyra Edl, a first-year Psychology student, found the back of the net, courtesy of
Teeghan Dalby's assist, to give the Badgers a 1-0 lead.
Â
The second period saw impressive defensive efforts from both teams, with neither able to capitalize on their power plays. Carleton continued to battle fiercely in the third period, and their persistence paid off when Payton Miller scored the equalizer at 10:04.
Â
With the score tied at 1-1, the game headed into overtime, but neither team managed to break the deadlock.
Â
The shootout became the deciding factor, and it was Brock that ultimately triumphed as Edl and
Madelyn Walsh each potted a goal.
Â
Second-year Brock goalie
Kenzie Harmison earned the win in net as she denied Sydney Berta and Shannon McDonald in the shootout.
Â
Up next, the Badgers' pre-season schedule continues with a road trip to Waterloo to take on the Laurier Golden Hawks at SunLife Arena on Thursday, Sept. 21 at 7 p.m.
