Badgers use late penalty kick to take down Gryphons

The Brock Badgers earned their third win of the 2023 season, besting the Guelph Gryphons 3-2 at Alumni Field on Saturday (Sept. 23).

The visitors put the pressure on early, scoring in the eleventh minute off the foot of Damain Truong. Brock put up two shots on net but were unable to net the equalizer in the first half.

In the second, the Badgers flipped the script. Marc Iantomasi scored his second goal of the year in the 51st minute to tie the match up 1-1.

A couple of minutes later, the Gryphons had a golden opportunity as a Brock foul in the box led to a Gray Yates penalty kick. Goalkeeper Taylor Miskolczi stood tall, denying the Guelph scoring chance as both teams continued to look for the go-ahead marker.

The Badgers had a penalty kick of their own in the 85th minute. Senior Luca Ragagnin made no mistake, burying the ball into the net for the Badgers lead. The Gryphons had a scoring chance late but Miskolczi continued to hold strong for Brock in net to seal the 2-1 victory.

Miskolczi made three saves to earn his third win of the year.

Up next, the Badgers (3-2-0) travel to Windsor, Ont., to take on the Windsor Lancers (2-1-1) tomorrow (Sept. 24) at 3:15 p.m.
