Game Recap: Women's Hockey | | Evan Curnew

Badgers fall late to Golden Hawks

The Brock Badgers women's hockey team fell 1-0 to the Laurier Golden Hawks on Friday, Jan. 13 at Canada Games Park.

Fourth-year goaltender Kenzie Harmison stopped 17 of 18 shots on the night.

Brock was given an opportunity midway through the first period on the power play but was unable to beat Laurier goaltender Kayla Renaud. The Badgers recorded a majority of the shots in the first period, with nine compared to the Golden Hawks' four.

Laurier opened the second with a flurry of chances, but a disciplined Badger's team defended well in their own zone. Brock was able to apply pressure to Laurier midway through the period while on the power play but the score remained level. The story of special teams continued in the game as a late second period penalty was successfully killed off by the Badgers.

The Badgers earned a penalty shot opportunity five minutes into the third period but were unable to capitalize. Late in the third period, a shot from the point for Laurier found its way through traffic and into the net, making it 1-0 for the Golden Hawks. Brock had a scramble late but could not find the equalizer.

Up next, the Brock Badgers' women's hockey team (6-9-0-3) will face the Ontario Tech Ridgebacks (4-9-3-0) at 6 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 19 at Canada Games Park. You can follow along on OUA.tv, and tickets can be purchased at https://brocku.universitytickets.com/
