The Brock Badgers men's basketball team returned home to Bob Davis Gymnasium on Saturday Jan. 20, where they came up just short against the Ontario Tech Ridgebacks losing 72-70.
Junior forward
Jordan Tchuente had a very strong game for Brock posting his third double-double of the season with 23 points, 13 rebounds, two blocks, two assists and one steal.
The Badgers got out to a relatively slow start in this one, falling into a multiple possession deficit in the first few minutes. The rest of the quarter was all Brock though, as freshman guard Davanté Hackett hit two three pointers and senior guard
Jevon Brown closed out the frame emphatically slashing in from the wing for a huge two-handed dunk. Brock led 19-16 at the end of the first.
It was very back-and-forth in the second quarter, with the teams staying within a few points of each other for the whole quarter.
Kevaughn Ellis and Tchuente kept up the hot shooting from beyond the arch for Brock, both hitting threes in the frame. Tchuente also converted a beautiful baby hook-shoot in the final seconds of the quarter to tie the game 36-36 heading into halftime.
The game remained a close battle throughout the third quarter as both teams were clamping down defensively and making it very difficult to find open shot opportunities. It looked like Ontario Tech would be heading into the final quarter leading by three, but first-year guard
Xavier Fearon hit a half-court buzzer-beater to tie the game 55-55 heading into the fourth.
The game remained very close until midway through the frame when the Ridgebacks were able to capitalize on a few Badger turnovers and create a multiple possession lead. A three-pointer by
Andrew McKenna and an old-fashioned three-point play by Tchuente gave the Badgers a glimmer of hope in the final minutes, but Brock would come up just short in the end.
Next up, the Badgers (7-8) will travel north for an important matchup on the road against the Lakehead Thunderwolves (7-8) on Friday, Jan. 26, with tip-off scheduled for 8 p.m. You can catch the game on OUA.tv
